Consiglios

Consiglios New HavenLocated in the heart of New Haven's historic Wooster Street neighborhood, Consiglio's has been a City tradition since it was established in the 1930s by Italian immigrants Annunziata and Salvatore Consiglio.

Enjoy a relaxing evening of fine food and wine at the restaurant The New York Times said had "delicious food...convivial atmosphere...gracious service...many high points..." and Elm City Newspapers called the area's "Most Romantic."

BAR

BARFueled by a dissatisfaction with New Haven nightlife and a desire to create a nightclub, principles Randal Hoder and Stuart Press opened BAR in August of 1991. The building they chose was built circa 1915 as an automobile showroom, but through the years was used for a variety of purposes.

Prior to the BAR renovations the building stood vacant for ten years. Once renovated, BAR was immediately heralded "a work of art" and awarded for its "outstanding design" by the Connecticut Institute of Architects.

People were lined up outside for the 11:30 a.m. opening on the Saturday we visited. We sidled in with the hordes for a look and were a bit perplexed by what we saw: two high-ceilinged dining rooms not at all down and dirty as you might expect, a huge tiled oven in the open kitchen where the cooks bake pizzas the way they always have, and nothing to let the uninitiated know what to order.
